So what is the deal with Microcurrent, High frequency, Galvanic? How are they different?

Micro Current Technology is an aesthetic treatment that can physically firm and tone the skin through muscle re-education. This process of a gentle ‘re-education’ of the fine facial muscles stimulates them with very small amounts of electricity. Micro Current is a specific amount of electricity that mirrors the body’s own natural current and works in harmony with the body’s electrical system. Micro Current impulses trigger chemical reactions at the cellular level to increase the effectiveness of how our bodies use ATP (adenosine triphosphate), a protein that is referred to as ‘the energy of life’. Micro Current mimics the electrical signals from the brain to the message center of the muscle, which is the tendon, the Micro Current stimulates the tendon thus aiding in strengthening the muscles by bringing more definition to the face and body. By reproducing the body’s own biological current Mico Current can establish new muscle memory naturally.

High Frequency current is a characterized by a high rate of oscillation and is also referred to as Tesla Current. High frequency can be used for facial treatments and scalp treatments. The primary action of this current is thermal, or heat-producing. Because of its rapid oscillation, there are no muscular contractions. The physiological effects are either stimulating or soothing, depending on the method of application. Benefits may include: Stimulates surface tissue, increases glandular activity, increases metabolism, germicidal benefits, aids in elimination and absorption. There are 2 different types of high frequency. Direct High Frequency – germicidal, drying and healing. The esthetician holds the electrode and works in circular motions 3 to 5 minutes. Use directly on dry skin or lay dry gauze over face and work. The current will have a more stimulating effect when the current is applied over a dry cloth. In Indirect High Frequency – known as Viennese massage, relaxation, toning and stimulating effect on the skin. The client holds the electrode while the esthetician massages the area being treated.

Galvanic Treatment in facials has been used in Europe for approximately 50 years. A galvanic facial can produce benefits that include smoothed out wrinkles, tightened muscles and increased blood circulation, which nourishes the skin cells. For body treatments, galvanic currents can help decrease congested fluids, increase lymph and blood circulation and help breakdown cellulite. Treatments can be performed in a spa by an aesthetician or at home with a special hand-held device. For a facial, a specialized pre-treatment gel with a negative charge is applied to clean dry skin. This step is called desincrustation and helps to deep clean the pores. After the pre-treatment gel is removed with a damp washcloth, a second gel with a positive charge called a treatment gel is applied to the skin and left on during the use of the instrument. The use of this second gel is called iontophoresis, or the nutrition step, for the skin. The aesthetician uses a galvanic messenger with a chrome base that conducts the galvanic current directly onto the skin. The current is a mixture of positive and negative ions that help rebalance and redistribute energy throughout the skin. The positive Pole may be used to close Follicles (pores) after the facial treatment, to decrease redness, as in mild acne, to prevent inflammation after extractions, to force acid PH solutions into the tissues (astringent). The Negative Pole may be used to to stimulate the circulation of blood to dry skin, to force disincrustation lotion (alkaline PH Solution) in to the skin.
